Drawn into Focus

Drawn into Focus is an ongoing project that translates more than twenty years of social media photography into hand-drawn colored pencil works. Conceived as a form of “printing by hand,” the project reframes images originally produced for rapid digital circulation as sites of labor, duration, and return.

Rather than departing from photography, the work slows it down. Images that once appeared briefly within algorithmic feeds are revisited through an extended manual drawing process, allowing memory, repetition, and delayed attention to emerge within material originally designed for immediacy and obsolescence.

By removing these images from platform-based circulation and materializing them through drawing, the project creates distance from logics of visibility, performance, and optimization. Returning to low-resolution, born-digital photographs, the work reintroduces time and material presence, allowing images meant to disappear to regain density and persistence beyond the screen.
